    How do you compare screen shot of a web page

    Hi All,

    How do you compare screen shot of a webpage between build to build. Bitmap checkpoint only covers portion of a webpage. Page check point covers only links and images. How do I compare WebEdits, WebLists etc., How do I find out if there is a text box moved from one place to another. Please let me know that answer even if it is combination of check points and something else.

    Thank you,
    Rama.

    Steps you need to follow when you want the Bipmap checkpoint for the whole page:
    Start Recording ->
    Selecte Bitmap checkpoint from Checkpoint menu ->
    Point the Mouse Pointer (Hand) to any object in your page ->
    Oject selection - tmap checkpoint properties will appear ->
    The Whole Hierarchy of that perticular object will be displayed ->
    Like Browser-Page-Frame-Object ->
    Now select Page in that Hierarchy and proceed further to insert the checkpoint.
    You will have the Bitmap checkpoint for the whole Page.
    Regards,
    Appy

    Hi Appy QTP,

    It still doesn't cover everything. Only bitmap covers what you can see. If the page has scroll bars bitmap check point doesn't cover the rest of the page.

    What if something changes in the web page that I can't see like a text box or label. How do you make sure that you know where is the error?

    What I do for labels is create an Output to a local table and those are the actual labels, you can create a check to see if actual label = expected label.
    Patience is like bread I say.... I ran out of that yesterday.

    Re: How do you compare screen shot of a web page

    Hi Tarun,

    Thank you very much for the help. Why no one uses screen shot comparison in QTP. How actually they are making sure everything is correct. Let's say if we don't want to use screen shot comparison.

    Thank you,
    Rama.

    See if you can compare page view source before and after builds, because there are many things which will make screen shot comparison fail.

    Re: How do you compare screen shot of a web page

    Hi TReddy,

    In Page Check point I can select HTML source that is what you mean by it. If I can compare view source and if it passes that means is it test passed?
