We are in the process of converting to Office 2007 from 2003. I've attempted to create an external data table for an automated test using the new version of Excel 2007. When I attempt to import the data table, I get the "Invalid File" error message. I've even renamed the extension from xlsx to xls, (the old formtat), and still no luck. Anyone else run into this?

You can't import the 2007 format. You need to save it in 2003 format only.

And I have noticed that if a workbook in the 97 to 2003 format, and has the standard *.xls extension, that Excel2007 will re-save it implicitly in that format. So you have to go out of your way to get an *.xls file saved in the 2007 format which uses then new *.xlsx extension (first you have to explicitly tell Excel2007 to save to the newer format AND then you have to rename the file from <file>.xlsx to <file>.xls thereby overwriting the original workbook).
