I have a question concerning using WinRunner with Windows 98. The Mercury website has conflicting information on whether Windows 98 is supported or not. Under system requirements Windows 98 is not listed but neither is it mentioned as not supported. On the WinRunner data sheet Windows 98 is listed as supported.
However, I am having trouble installing WinRunner on Windows 98. It goes through the installation process but at the end when it says "Updating System Files" it locks up the machine and a hard-reboot is required. Upon rebooting it doesn't finalize the installation and when you try to run WinRunner it says that it cannot initialize the Licensing module and then exits.
I did get it to successfully install once by hitting ctrl-alt-del right before it locked up and killing the installation process but I guess I got lucky on the timing that time because I haven't been able to do it again.
Additionally, the installation will occasionally freeze in the same spot even with Windows XP. However, on Windows XP it does not completely lock-up the system and launching task-manager and killing the setup.exe process will enable the installation to continue.
Thank you for any information you may be able to provide.
Thank you for the response.
I already sent a tech support request to Mercury but I haven't gotten a respone yet. Just thought I'd try and see if anyone else had encountered something like this before and if they knew how to solve it. If I get a response and a solution back from Mercury I'll let you all know.
