    comparing two excel files

Is there a way to compare two spreadsheets files?
I used file_compare function but it always returns –10119 code which is “GUI checkpoint mismatched found”, even though the files contents are the same, the only difference is “execution date” which is a column contains the execution date, but even when I deleted this column from both files I still getting the above error code….

    Re: comparing two excel files

the file_compare function isn't going to work with Excel files as there is embedded information that is stored in a xls file depending on what application you last used to open it. As an example, MS Excel will update internally a history of changes if you have tracking on and there are so many other options stored internally like page layout, print area, and list goes on.

Since the ddt_* functions are there for you to specifically look into the cells of xls files, I'd recommend you just write a function to compare them through those functions at a cell by cell value level

use .csv files. They're compatable with ddt functions, can be edited by Excell, and work with file_compare.

Not a Winrunner solution per se but you may be able to use.

There is an add-in that you can use in excel to compare spreadsheets which works really well. I found this from another thread in this forum and I have tried it out - it works very well.
