I have never used the advanced winrunner concepts and i heard from one of my Colleague that we can extract test data from any database into a excel sheet and parametrize the test script. Can any one please help me sending me sample TSL script for this for me to understand.
Thank you all for you time and look forward to hear from you.
Re: importing data from database to Excel spreadsheet
Sample code is just doing the job you need to learn to do Travel the higher road of experimentaiton and learn how to do it yourself. Once you have tried we would be happy to help with any questions that have arisen out of trial and error.
To get started - there is a wonderful book that is shipped with WinRunner called the 'WinRunner's User Guide'. Chapter 21 is called "Creating Data-Driven Tests" and there is a sub section dedicated to importing data from a database. Believe it or not, it is called "Importing Data from a Database".
Read through that information and give it a try.
If you haven't mastered the concepts of the standard Data Sriven testing, the mentioned chapter gives you the information you need to learn this concept as well.
Good luck and enjoy learning the higher concepts of automated test development with WinRunner!
