I am just wondering how many wrun.ini would be created when WinRunner is installed on a machine.
Well, if it looks like a dumb question.. here is my problem:
I am right now learning how to use TD and WR and how to customize them and all.. so I can cover most of the examples and scenarios in the WR user guide.
I have both the softwares (TD and WR) installed on the same machine. And, I executed the TDConnectivity plug-in (given in TD plug-ins page) as it was recommended in the read-me file.
All I am trying to do is to run the sample tests in TD's demo application (logging in as the admin) on WR. Anyways, I also checked an option in WR/general options/environment to allow the TD to run tests remotely. And, I accessed the TD Connection option in the tools menu of WR to connect WR to the server and then to the project. When I connected to the project it gave me a warning saying that I was trying to access a private project and blah blah blah... and it asked me to make sure I have access to the repository,C:\COMMDIR\TESTDIR0\TESTS of the project. So, I hit "OK" and hit "Close" to close the TD connection page.
But then, I get this message:
"Unhandled Exception from WinRunner Init - EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION: The thread attempted to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access.
Test=C:\Program Files\Mercury Interactive\inRunner\tmp\noname9, Line=3"
I guess the noname9 refers to the testname (I had a new test page open)
When I hit "OK" it just terminates the program (I mean it gives an exception error to debug and all)
So, I searched for WRUN.INI files (God knows why) hoping I would find a clue as to what's wrong with the whole setup. But then, the windows search feature returned three files with the name, "WRUN.INI" in three different locations. I even edited the system registry as mentioned in WinRunner read me file and as I expected, it didn't work either. I am right now absolutely clueless and I badly need help with this.
I would greatly appreciate if anyone can help me ...
Thanks a lot,

There is only one wrun.ini per install.
What does line 3 of noname state?
Thanks a lot for your response!
I haven't checked what line 3 states cuz there was nothing there... I will check and let you know tomorrow.
And I dunno how I have three WRUN.INI files.. Where does that one WRUN.INI file need to be?? And what do I do with the other two?
Actually somebody else was using the computer before I took over.. So I have no clue of how those two came into existence
In normal winrunner only install, wrun.ini gets installed in the c:\windows directory (99% sure anyway - not at work right now to verify that). There is an original copy somewhere in the WR directory tree, but the one in the Windows directory (or WINNT) is the one that actually gets read in.
[i]...Sound trumpets! Every trumpet in the host! / Sixty thousand, on these words, sound, so high the mountains sound, and the valleys resound.</i] (The Song of Roland)
My desktop install has 2 copies -- one in the WIndows folder, and one in the "dat" folder of the WR installation path.
Our TD is installed on a different server, and I haven't checked it, but I wouldn't be surprised to find another copy of wrun.ini on that.
That, maybe would explain your 3 copies (but not, I'm afraid, help much with your root problem).
Guys, thanx a lot for your responses. Yes Charles and Peter, actually I have only 2 wrun.ini files and the other is just a shortcut to the one in the Windows folder.. Sorry for confusing you
And, jpensyl, as far as line 3 goes, I am not able to see anything there.. I really dunno what the problem is...
By the way, what needs to be the value of XR_TEST_DIRECTOR in the wrun.ini file? In mine, it is FALSE. But then, I read in the read-me file for WR that if I have to change any boolean values, I should change it to either 1 or 0 instead of True/False & Yes/No. By the way, the versions are 7.01 and 7.01 for both WR and TD.
Can any of you please give me some more inputs?
Thanks a lot!
If this will help:
This is what the header file in my noname11 test folder contains:
#! asci,100,100,Test Header,Wed Jun 09 12:05:54 2004
NAME=C:\Program Files\Mercury Interactive\WinRunner\tmp\noname11
Note that in Line three, TDDB_ID=0. Dunno if this matters or not.. But, can you please let me know?
I'm not sure this wrun.ini stuff isn't getting out of hand. I VERY rarely make any changes to it, and NEVER simply as a result of, say, making sure that WR and TD co-exist happily.
I'm uneasy that you are going to end up with a non-functional WR in a hurry.
By the way, in my file, XR_TEST_DIRECTOR=FALSE also. So that isn't an issue.
Thanx for the information.. Well yeah, I haven't made any changes and I won't, now that you have mentioned I am just trying to know as much as possible.. but yeah, I will try to see other options..
But, if you happen to know anything about the problem, can you please let me know?
