    obj_get_text stops working

I have been using Winrunner 7.5 running on an XP SP1 platform for 2 weeks now. Everything was running fine and then suddenly obj_get_text or win_get_text stopped working correctly. Now, it produces "no text was found" for all my tests. Even tried on Notepad and the behavior is still the same. I did a clean uninstall/reinstall of Winrunner, but the problem still persists.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Gary

    Re: obj_get_text stops working

Have you tried stepping through the script and examining variables?

Do you have set_window statements just prior to the obj_get statements?

Are you testing web-based and launching the browser before WinRunner (puzzled about the notepad issue)?

Has the app under test changed?

Do you have the proper addins loaded if necessary?

Have you changed browser versions if test web?

Have you re-applied all patches / service packs?

    Is you gui map up-to-date?

Has anyone ever found a solution to this? I have been experiencing a similar problem as of late...

    Re: obj_get_text stops working

I guess I should put a little more detail down since my first post is very bland... I am unable to use the obj_get_text function from all windows that I have tried - including notepad. The script is failing on XP computers - it works fine on NT. It is not a GUI Map issue - in some cases I can replace the obj_get_text function with the function that gets on object's properties, and I can get simple text back via the value property. This technique does not work well with data lists. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I thought I should put the solution that was found. Most of you probably know this, but it is critical to install WinRunner with a local Admin ID on XP. Otherwise, it can create funky issues.
