I believe you have to create a custom recording function to accomplish this. Look at Chapter 5 (Customizing Recorded Statements) in the WinRunner Customization Guide.

GUI Map Identifiers
When recording a script, is there any way for WinRunner to use the proerties associated with an object to assign the identifier used in referencing the object from the code. For example: I have a gui with a number of combo boxes, winrunner labels the first box (when recording) as cmb_0, the second cmb_1, and so on. I want the object names (say cmbSelectParty and cmbSelectType) to be used instead. Is there any way (besides manually) to have this done?
