    Additional WinRunner seats

We have one person using WinRunner at our company. However, he would like to load it on 3-4 machines in our lab so he can run tests concurrently in multiple environmnent. Mercury is telling us that we have to purchase additional seats which are as much as what WinRunner orginally cost us. Has anyone ever come up against this?

    Re: Additional WinRunner seats

Additional seats usually cost as much as the original license. This is because the original license is, in itself, just a seat license. Purchasing additional licenses is no different except that you may be able to arrange for a volume discount.

With a seat license, you can typically only install the software on a single machine at a time. If you want to install on additional machines, you will either need additional seat licenses or a additional floating licenses (which can be installed on as many machines as you want but has a limit on concurrent usage).

Yes. Lots of people have come up against this issue. It has to do with licensing.

What does your license agreement say?

If your Mercury Rep tells you that you will need to purchase additional licenses, he's probably right (although they make mistakes, too).

    Re: Additional WinRunner seats

Also inquire with you Mercury salesperson about WinRunner execution agents. If you are only executing on these machines, but not doing development, you may not need to the full license.

    Re: Additional WinRunner seats

    To...jpulley...

    Hi,

Could you please elaborate on the Winrunner execution part? Currently we have 6 full WinRunner licenses, even though all development work is done on only 2 of the machines. The other 4 are used to just run the WinRunner scripts that we develop. Are you saying that there is some way we could have cut down on this cost?

    Thanks for your help.
