I have been working extensively on WINRUNNER for the past 6 months. I have been engaged in writing test scripts for web based application. So I have been using mostly web related commands. Besides the said experience on WINRUNNER I have 5+ years of QA experience and 3+ years of development. With the given background I need to know how good it is to go for CPS certification. Since WR other than web based app has other types of add-ins and is also used for VB apps, Java apps, SAP and others. For certification does one need to know developing scripts for apps that are developed on other platforms like VB, Java, PowerBuilder, SAP etc. Having extensive experience on developing scripts for web based app only isnít enough. Is that assumption correct or is it my thinking. In case if itís later, I feel like then to go for CPS attempt. I will appreciate if someone could guide me thru and provide the clear outlook what is the true experience pre-requisite for CPS.
I did my Winrunner CPS about 4 years ago now, so it's waaay out of date. But I don't remember anything out of the ordinary that a developer with 3 years experience couldnt handle. When I did the CPS, I had around 6 months WR and 1 years development experience.
I know people who have had no real world experience, just finished their cfomputer science degree and one of their first tasks for their first job was to do the Testsuite CPS. The guy in question passed no problem and it took him just under 2 weeks full time to complete. I have also heard of people with 4+ years experience of winrunner attempt the CPS twice and give up both times because it's too difficult.
There's nothing on the test that you cannot find the answer to if you have the tool (WinRunner/TestDirector) and the manual. So even if you haven't even seen Winrunner before, you can still answer the questions if you are prepared to learn.
My friends have take CPS test, just after they got trained in WinRunner. They have 1+ years of development experience. They could clear with around 85% in there CPS Test.
As going further my view is that if you have some development experience & knows the WinRunner Suit. Have a dedication to complete the Test then CPS is not a big deal. The pass % of CPS is more in case of WinRunner.
If you are planning to take, just don't have 2 thinkings go ahead and take.
All the best
Thanks for your comments. That gives me the idea that it is not necessary to have the complete knowledge of WR/Test Director. Right now I don't have the access to TD. Will go ahead with my firm and have it installed.
Thanks once again.
