The scripts that I have written "crash" IE on any machine that I run it on in my office. So far there are two separate machines here and one in our office in another state. All of them create the same error. It also happens around the same place in the application testing. We are testing a web app that uses java and cold fusion. I am a mere automation tester, could this be a problem with our web app??? (although this has never happened with manual testing)
I have noticed some problems with the WR ad-ins and hooks to the browser that seem to be responsible for a variety of IE browser crashes. In my case, I have modified all scripts to avoid using the GUI checkpoint for multiple objects as that consistently caused IE to crash. Also avoid recording the browser print function via the Print button or File > Print (from info in the MI Knowledge base).
We would love to try to run this agains IE 5.5 however since WR licensing is machine specific and IE 6.0 is so "controlling" even after removal, we would have to rebuild my machine to get 5.5 on it. That would be very time intensive and only used as a last resort.
I don't think so. Did the machine have IE5.5 before you installed 6.0? If yes, then you shouldn't have any problem uninstalling IE6.0. When uninstall is complete, IE5.5 SP2 will be restored. I have done this couple of times and the uninstall works perfectly fine.
