Winrunner - checking the files?
i have a question in reference to web based testing using Winrunner.
We have an web interface, through which an administrator submits data by entering required info into the text fields within a form.
This data submitted, is stored into a config file(eg: a file with name configxxx.txt)
Note: info is not stored into database, but into a file.
I would really appreciate if you/anyone can let me know or give a brief overview of the process, how to check - whether the admin submitted data is successfully stored into file or not.
Note: The whole test should be automated using Winrunner.
yes..what you thinking is right.. i am new to Winrunner
Re: Winrunner - checking the files?
If the file is stored on the Web Server you need to "download" the file to the Test PC running WinRunner. You could use FTP to do this.
Once the file is on the PC you need to have a file to compare it to. This would be done by entering the data (from Data Driven Test) and making sure the correct data is in the file.
Use this file to compare with the one generated when running the Test Script in WinRunner.
Use a file compare program like:
Very power, full feature file comparison program with command line options.
Design your test and after you have it working add the "Data Driven" .xls code last.
Adding "Data Driven" design to an existing test is very simple once you have done it.
