Automating using a prototype instead of a web page?
I posted this in the yahoo group, but here we go anyway...
Ok, I am working with a billing system. 2 of the regions we have are exact clones and I can use the same scripts for both.
We are introducing a new region which wont be a clone of the others. I will be creating new scripts.
The problem is, I wont have a working model till pretty late in the effort and they want us to start automating. Could I automate using a html file of the page(without the code behind it)? My superiors want to know
if I could use this prototype I will have, but I dont think I can. I think I might have to do everything manually with this new system, at least in the beginning. There are times when it is best not to automate
I dont think I could use the same scripts from the clones, everything will probably be named differently, even though they provide the same functionality.
I still a beginner and havent used WR in quite a long time so any help is much appriciated!
Re: Automating using a prototype instead of a web page?
You can use a prototype to an extent. That extent is determined by how much code is behind the pages at any given time and how many links are active.
I might agree to doing early automation on a prototype if I could get some guarantee that object names would be stable.
