hello friends...........i am new to WR and write now just going through its help manual......well i have few queries........can u guys help me....
1.My application use VB and Oracle,it is also using Third Party Controls [Protoview Suite]..now my question is whether i can use wr for testing ..will it recognize the Third Party Controls....and how will i do it?
2.Well can use Oracle for database driven test....or it only MS Access that i can use.......?????
.........well i will really appreciate if u guys can explain this to me....
as far as ur second query is concerned i think it works for all DB all u need to install the Oracle Client in the m/c from where you are using winrunner and create a DSN then connect to db using this DSN name use database functions from winrunner..
You can use several dB's with WinRunner example: SQL, ORACLE, ACCESS and I =
think there is another one but I forgot the name.
If you are using VB controls you may want to load WR with the VB add on che=
cked. Also you may want to use ActiveX control add on if it may help you wi=
th your ProtoView controls but I am not sure of that since I do not know th=
ese controls. The best method is to try running GUI Spy or even recording a=
simple action and see how WR reacts to this.
Regarding the dB's, I have used an Oracle dB before but not for the use of =
a data table (like you would use an Excel spreadsheet) rather to verify my =
expected results. I.E. I made an action in the AUT, it is supposed to make =
a change in the dB, I connect to the dB using WR and run a SQL query on the=
dB to check & verify my expected results.
Hope this helps.
thanks lior ,it was indeed of great help........i will try these options.........but how do u connect Oracle through WR.??.......coz i have read only about WR-Excel connection till now?.......what is the way to do that........?.......do mail me
To connect to any dB's you use you must first have your dB admin have your =
machine configured properly for this connection.
I remember when I used Oracle with WR I needed two DLL files in my WinNT fo=
Normally you use db_connect() statement from WR to connect to your dB. Look=
at this command it has several other params , like user name & password fo=
r the dB.
Then you use db_execute_query() and put your SQL statement there to extract=
values from the db.
This is it more or less ...
Regarding the Excel spreadsheets, well that is not exactly a dB but only a =
simple way to store data that is bound to chage frequently and you do not w=
ish to hard code it all the time.
