User Prem Kumar Arumugam (Prem.Arumugam@oracle.com.nospam) posted:

    Hi All,

Is there a function which can be used to change the Logical name of a particular GUI object. I want to change the
logical name of the objects through a script.

    Thanks and Regards
    Prem

Check the GUI_ functions. There are a number of options for doing this

Thanks Eric for the function. But the property name doesn't mean the logica=
l name. If i execute this it adds a new property as name to the Physical De=
scription as name rather than changing the logical name of the object

    Try this:

    * Grab the physical description of the object from the GUI map and
    store to a variable
    * Delete the object from the GUI map
    * Add a new object with the new logical name with the stored physical
    description

    Hi,
Instead of going for a function,
u can very well change the the logical name of the object by
selecting the object in the GUI map file and modify the name by
clicking the modify button and then save the changes.

Hope this will work fine for you.

    Regards,
    thinkwr.

    hai,
I don`t think this fuction will change the logical name of the
object. It will create an attribute and set value for that
    attribute for that object.

    GUI_buf_set_desc_attr
    (guifile,window,obj,"name",NewLogicalName);

can u please give some more info. of how to change logical name
    of the object.

    Thanks in advance

    John:

If the object is a parent object, like a window, won't deleting it delete
all the child objects beneath it. I'm not so sure this is the best way to
manage this. Changing the existing physical description is MUCH safer.

I've been trying to come up with a reason why it's important to change a
logical name but I can't. "A rose, by any other name is still a rose."
It's like, "you can call be Jay, or you can call me Ray, or you can call me
..." Bottom line is, the oject is recognized based on the physical
    description, not the logical name.
