Anyone with any techniques for re-using data? I have to check the outcome o=
f a report based on a clients billings. To do this I have to be able to use=
a client that has a variety of billings - in other words he as to have bee=
n billed for specific services in order to test all of the possible combina=
tions of the way the invoice is totaled. However, the data that I have to u=
se is very dynamic so I cannot be assured that as the database is updated t=
he original client that I am testing will always have the same billing info=
rmation available. I know that this must be a problem that is faced by many=
testers, especially if you are trying to use a spreadsheet to drive the sc=
ript. Doing a complete restore fo the database might work, but that could b=
e a very lengthy process, and as time went on that data would be too old to=
be of any value. I don't see how gui checkpoints can be used in an enviro=
nment where the data that must be checked is not the same from one day to t=
he next. Any one who has experience with this - or if you have any ideas th=
at might help, your input would be appreciated.=20

what I do is use get text as my checkpoints and use tl_step to pass or fail=
the script. Also, I have the script dynamically increment the values neede=
    d. If the values are unknown then I get the value from the database or anot=
her part of the application and verify it with what is displayed on the scr=
    een.

    Stephanie,
I'm not sure how that would work. I need to be able to select a
client to bill that has certain folders enabled and those folders
have to have certain product lines. The test database is refreshed
periodically with production data. So, I can load a client and the
applicable folders. etc., into a spreadsheet that I cna then use to
enter the necessary data and compare to the results in the invoice.
The problem is that when the data is refreshed, the client
information may have changed, which makes the spreadsheet data
useless. If this were a short term test - for a process that can be
tested and put to bed this would not be a concern, but I amy need to
reuse the billing test in the future. I am trying to find out if
anyone has a solution to this.

    Thanks,

    Dave Parker
