    extracting data from reports

I am very new to automated testing and am currently trying to set up our company with Winrunner to do some regression for starters.

Our product is written in Delphi and has a great number of reports that it generates. Currently, each report has the option of being created as an ASCII file. The reports however maybe as long as 100 pages, and all I want to verify are 50 or 60 numbers from it. I was thinking of using a product like MONARCH, or MONARCH DATA PUMP to parse out the numbers I want and then use Winrunner to verify the numbers.

Has anyone done this? Am I barking up the wrong tree? And are there inexpensive products that can do the same thing?

    Re: extracting data from reports

Why not use WinRunner to extract the data and verify it? Why use any other tool?
