    Temporary GUI files

User Feather, Steve (PSD) (steve.feather@psd.defra.gsi.gov.uk) posted:

Colleagues in the wonderful WinRunner community,

I'm rather new to this testing game and I need some advice. I've been tasked
with testing applications developed in OpenRoad, which is a bit of a pain. I
believe there are no 'add-ins' for this.

WinRunner identifies most objects as 'w4gleditclasses' which I've mapped to
the 'edit class'. Even what you would expect to be a table object is
identified as separate little edit boxes.

I have created a virtual table class which overlaps a number of edit boxes,
and removed the edit box references from my gui map file. The problem is
that when I want to record a test, WinRunner automatically learns these edit
boxes and places them in the temporary GUI file. So when recording a test my
virtual object is not found, it acts upon the newly discovered edit boxes.

So my question is, can you prevent WinRunner from identifying new objects
    when recording?

    Thanks

I do not think so. My work around for that problem was to load the gui map then when I record if it did not see the virtual object, just insert a comment where I acted upon the virtual object and then change the logical name in the script after recording. It was a bit of a pain but since I did not have that much virtual objects it worked.
