    Virtual objects...HELP

    User (Edward.Drobisewski@LibertyMutual.com) posted:

    I am trying to get WR to record a Virtual Object of class OBJECT,
    using it's Logical Name.
    Here is the Record Code...
    set_window("Search Household/Campaign", 10);
    obj_mouse_click("LastName", 26, 2, LEFT);
    win_type ("Search Household/Campaign","EdSki");

    In "obj_mouse_click"...the "LastName" is the Logical Name for a
    Virtual Object of Class OBJECT.
    In the AUT, the "LastName" is an edit/text field.
    Now look at the recording code above and Note that when I type to the
    Virtual Object for the text box, the "win_type" function kicks in and
    the window label is recorded as if it is typing on the window
    itself...???

    here is the GUI description for "LastName"
    {
    class: object,
    virtual: TRUE,
    x: 105,
    y: 274,
    width: 132,
    height: 13,
    rows: 1,
    columns: 1
    }

    I have tried to Configure the GUI object to the bare bones
    properties, but still get the same results. I have over 100 of these
    text fields in the app, and I would like to be able to write code
    like...
    obj_type("LastName, "edski");

    When I try this, I get the error that a "Virtual Object does not
    support this function...?!!!

    Is there any documentation as to what Functions that I can use with
    Virtual Objects...???

    Edward,

    Let me understand this, you mapped this to a virtual
    object? If you delete it from GUI map then relearn it,
    what is the description? What add-ins are you using?
    What is the environment of your application (Visual
    Basic, Web, etc).

    Regards,

    The AUT is written using "4th Dimension 6.5" aka "4D", on Win95, soon to be
    implemented on Win2000. WR does not see any of the objects in the windows.
    I cannot learn this using the "normal" method, nor does the SPY see these
    objects. I am not using any add-ins. I tried using one or all add-ins and
    this made no difference.
    Here is the GUI Map Configuration initializer I need to use so I can see the
    windows:

    set_record_attr("window", "class label", "", "");
    set_record_method("window", RM_RECORD);

    If I don't initialize the window object, I get the system path as a label
    and WR does not see child windows or any other windows except for the MAIN
    window, and this method just creates other problems down the road.

    As I said in my original post...when I create a class of "object", using
    the Virtual Wizard, for these text fields(see original post below for
    description), I cannot use code like:

    obj_type("logical name", "string");

    Instead, I have use the code:
    set_window("Search Household/Campaign", 10);
    obj_mouse_click("LastName", 26, 2, LEFT);
    win_type ("Search Household/Campaign","EdSki");

    What is wierd, I can use:
    obj_mouse_click("logicalname", x, y, mouse button);

    but if you try:
    obj_type("logical name", "string");
    you get the infamous error..."Virtual Object does not support this
    function."

    I have tried learning the textfields as List or Table classes, with the
    virtual wizard, and this does not help.

    I modified the Phys description of these objects to use an "edit" class, and
    I get the same results.

    Edward,

    Which version of WR (include patch). I do not have
    direct experience with 4th dimension, so I am not sure
    which add-ins are appropriate, but I have seen
    something similar to this when using WR 6.02 without
    any patches. And there are some that will fix this for
    the web environment.

    Let me know,

    Rick

    WinRunner 7.00
    Build 7211
    USA and Canada

    Installed add-ins:

    Add-in Version Loaded
    ActiveX Controls 7.00.0.0
    PowerBuilder 7.00.0.0
    Visual Basic 7.00.0.0
    WebTest 7.00.0.0

    I am not using any Add-ins. I tried the addins, thinking the same thing you
    are and no luck. 4D is not a Web app.
