I would suggest that you run without TestDirector for some time and start with WinRunner.
Make sure you buy TestDirector because that's
what you want (later on) and not because some Sales person tells you "everyone is doing it". Because everyone is not, and you don't have to!
In my opinion it's value add is inversly prortional to it's marked up price.

My company is in talks with MI about purchasing WinRunner. When asked about TestDirector the salesman said "I didn't wan't you to have to swallow everything at once." How valuable is this tool, and can we perform without it.... Thanks in advance.
Sure, you can get along quite well without Test Director. Winrunner scripts can be stored anywhere and at a later time if you decide to get TD, your scripts can easily be imported.
