We have a web application that receives data from two different servers at different locations. The response times to load the web data is sluggish and development was trying to track down which connection is slowing it down. Is there any way WinRunner can track such response times? We mainly use WR for our Delphi product so web testing is new to me.
Re: WinRunner and Web based application response time
You have two sets of response time data to worry about here. The first set is how long does it take for the information to be sent to each individual server. The second set is how long does it take for the information to be displayed on the screen. WinRunner can be effective at addressing the second set of datapoints, but to decouple the individual calls and track each server response independently requires a tool which operates at a lower layer of the OSI, underneath the GUI and one which can generate and track individual server calls.
Mercury has such a tool in their arsenal, it is LoadRunner. If you only need to track the calls on a singleton basis and never under load, then the only piece of LoadRunner you really need is the Virtual User Generator, as this peice can certainly track the response times for the individual calls and present that information using a logged model.
