Okay y'all, for the life of me I can't figure out of this is possible:
As we all probably know, script reusablity saves time and money, but we have over 2000 projects loaded into TestDirector and want to be able to easily find projects that we can re-use scripts from. As an example, I want to find all scripts that involved ABC Web Application. Is there a way to search ALL projects for ABC Web Application and then review the scripts?
Another example, I want to find all scripts that mention "www.abccompany.com".
With a project in Quality Center/Test Director being defined at the back end as a different database (amazing to think you have 2000 of them), not easily, and definately not within the tool. The scope of the tool is restricted to the individual project you are logged into at the time.
To do a cross referencing of that sort would require some major DB SQL knowledge and work
Thx Tony for the response. It is unfortunate that one couldn't easily do this. I would hope that this is a feature coming soon. I guess my view on it was: its a database, it has to be able to be queried against. Oh well, thanks again Tony.
It can be queried against, but outside of the tool. Talk to your DBA and see what they can recommend.
Look at it this way - the tool is meant to be used to capture and control information realted to a project. If the information from one project needs to be referenced in another, then it would have been best to incorporate the information into the same project and broken it down by folder structure and not an additional database.
I don't see this as a feature they will ever consider implementing. Nothing personal, but if you are trying to collelate information across 2000 project databases with the same information contained with in the tests, it sounds more like lack of forward planning than a piece of missing functionality on the side of Quality Center.

If you're looking to search the actual automated script content (i.e. QTP or WR scripts), our Test Design Studio tool allows you to do global "search in files" that include files on a Quality Center server. There's a free trial you can check out.
