Hi - this forum seems great and was wondering if you guys could provide your professional help to iron out an issue that I am facing. In the company I work for I have set up a Test Department from scratch and have introduced the Mercury Test tools.
As every one here probably knows that Test Director is a Test Management tool and from my previous experience both the site customisation and site administration are looked after by the Test Manager or a tester within the team. However since I am the only Test Manager in the company who drafts testers from other departments to help out in the testing process until dedicated testers are employed my company is demanding that I hand over both password to Production System (a kind of IT help desk) so that they can adminstrate and set previledges in my absence. I do not agree with this but what are your views?
As your company grows and more testers are added, TD/QC Admin can easily become a full-time job. To administer TD/QC to its fullest potential, test case writing, programming, and many other talents are needed. Most of all the time to work out the best organizational process. To that end, I would say that anyone with these skills should be the Administrator. Whomever fills the bill at your company is the person for the job. I set our TD up 6 years ago, but the organizational plan was arrived at by committee. I still administer, but only when I have time. I have an administer who is really in charge, so complaints go to him. That's fine with me. I can understand not wanting to give up your baby, but maybe it would be advantageous at this time.
