Hi y'all. I am doing an investigation for my company about automated test tools and they are interested in knowing if Test Director can generate unit and/or functional tests directly from .NET source code. I have been reading the Mercury website, but as is often the case with the web I am finding out everything except this. Thanks for any help anyone can offer.
TestDirector is primarily a Test Repository. A place to store and arrange tests for test runs, both manual and automated. it can launch the tests for Mercury tools and maintain a history of test runs for reporting purposes. If you are using a Mercury tool like WinRunner or QTP, and you import or create a manual test in TD, then you can generate a template for the automated test. It is more like an outline which you have to massage quite a bit to make it work. TD can not generate automated tests for any other test tool, but it can be modified to launch tests with other tools. Of course TD can also handle Requirements and map them to tests as well as defect storage and manipulation. But it can not create automated tests. There are some tools out there that claim to be able to do this, but not TD.
