I am new to Mercury testing, I am trying to install TD on my computer having Win XP pro,and IIS enabled. When installation starts it issues one error Message like.
BUILTIN\Administrators has no permission to write to C:\ProgrammeFiles\CommonFiles...I really need TD so bad...i have interview after two days....
And just three random observations. First, you didn't say anything about what version of TD you are trying to install..and whether you are at XP, XP w/ SP1, or XP w/ SP2. (Has TD even been certified to operate on XP? - Required configuration in the documentation specifies NT 4.0 Server, 2000 Server, and Server 2003 - that's all for TD 8.0) That'll have an impact on what you are trying to do and whether you will be successful or not.
Second, trying to install and learn TD two days prior to an interview is bad form. If you claimed knowledge, a good interviewer will identify that you don't have the requisite knowledge.
Lastly, if that were a bug report and I were the developer that was going to work on your issue, I would send it back for more information. What kind of information? Two things at a bare minimum: System configuration and steps to reproduce the issue.
Just to put the final nail in the coffin, according to KB article 13154, "Starting from TestDirector 7.2 with Service Pack 4 Windows XP client machines are supported. However, there is no version of TestDirector that will support Windows XP server machines. Support for Windows XP is still being worked on for future versions of TestDirector."
And while I'm at it, there was a post in the user discussions area on the Mercury Support site from the "Community Host": "Test Director - XP install
Hello -- here is some information from our Test Management team that may clarify the matter:
It is possible to install TD 8.0 SP1 on an XP machine, but Mercury does not support this operating system as a server. The same is also true for TD 7.6. Windows XP Professional is not an Enterprise level server. Instructions and assistance are not provided for users who want to install TD on a non-supported platform. To be consistent, this policy is applied to even those users who just want to install TD on XP for testing or training purposes. TD installed on Windows XP has not been QA'd."
