Linking Design Doc with Requirements and Test Cases in TD
I was asked to implement traceability between the Design Doc, Requirements and Test Cases in Test Director.
Is there any way in Test Director to link a Design Doc with requirements and test cases? Requirements and test cases are in TD. The Design Doc is a word doc and is not in TD.
I was thinking may be there is a way to create a separate tab like Requirements, export the Design doc there by sections, and then link requirements to a section the requirement is addressed in.
Or may be I can customize the requirement tab and add an entry field where I would manually enter a section in the Design Doc where the requirement is addressed.
Any other ideas?
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Re: Linking Design Doc with Requirements and Test Cases in TD
It depends on your context, but I would strongly advise to freeze any document that serves as the basis for traceability. Changes to these documents are likely to break the test requirements and test cases they generated.
In that context, you may think of attaching the document to a root requirement, so that all requirements that are coming from it are children of that root requirement. Ask people to enter the section number that serves as the basis of every child requirement, either in the description or in a user-defined field. Test cases should then cover these requirements.
If you can store these documents on an intranet server, possibly the TD server, another possibility is to set bookmarks on each section and attach these bookmarks as URL's to the requirements and/or test cases.
