While performing manual testing. If there is more than one run for the same test plan, on what basis is the run picked when we try to continue the manual run. Moreover the run ID could be overwritten. Is there any way to pick the run that we desire from the 'Continue Manual Run' option.
You should tell us what version of TestDirector you're using.
With version 8.0, the Execution/Continue Manual Run (Shift+Ctrl+F9) menu continues the last (timewise) run (even if all steps are marked as passed!).
To continue another, previous, run, you have first to display the Test Run Properties. There is a button in the Execution Grid tool bar for that purpose, or you can double-click on a test instance in that grid to bring up that window.
In that window (Test Run Properties), select the All Runs tab: this displays a grid with all the runs for the selected test in that test set (be sure that no filter has been set on that grid if you do not see the run you're looking for). Then, select the Continue button on the toolbar. That button may not ve visible when the window is first displayed: simple enlarge the window or click on the double-arrow button located at the far right of the tool bar to display the Continue button. This allows you to continue the run you selected in the gris of runs.
I am using Testdirector 7.2. I dont see any option to continue any chosen run. Also i dont see any 'Continue' toolbar button in the Test Run Properties Window. In this scenario, what are the ways to run a chosen run. Or based on what criteria is the run chosen with the 'Continue Manual Run' Option.
I dont think the run with the newest execution date is picked. Then if i alter the execution date of the last run to a most recent date, it should pick that run. But it doesnot happen so. Moreover i am able to overwrite the RunID also.
