Unable to ping remote SQL server box
I was wondering if anyone had come across the following situation.
I want to migrate projects from one XP SQL server 2000 TD 8.0 installation to a second more powerful box running same versions.
I am informed by Mercury that the best way to do this is to connect the original to the new one and restore projects etc once the connection is made.
However, I am unable to ping the original dbserver from the new installation (I can ping the box) but not from TD server. I have an support call open with Mercury, their attitude is: it's a network or database issue, sort it out yourself.
The machines are on the same local network, so no problems there, so I think my problem must be the ADO connection string: Currently trying something along the following lines....
Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Data Source=192.168.1.16,1433;Network Library=dbmssocn;User ID=sa;Password=password;Initial Catalog=pubs
So my question is, does anyone have experience of administering multi-server td installations, and if so, how do you connect the damn things together? Am I even headed in the right direction here?
Re: Unable to ping remote SQL server box
Ok - answered my own question : It was SQL server SP3 - upgraded both servers, now can connect to them and see them in TDAdmin. Moral of this story: Make sure the builds are the same!
