I have written all test cases (manual) for one portal in our project. Currently we are starting to use web base Test Director (7.0i). My manager asked me is it possible to convert all manual Test Cases to Test Director, System Test Plan and Functional Requirement Specs as well. I'm not quite sure. Because he thought that TD was actually central database where resided all resource of project. So that QA team will be able to organize new project properly in near future.
QA process was done by MS Word.
System Test Plan was done by MS Word.
Test Flow Diagrams was done by MS Visio.
Test Matrix was done by MS Excel
Test Case was done by MS Word.
Functional Requirement Specs was done by MS Word.
I'm not sure about 7.0i, but I know that 7.2 and above have MS Word and Excel macros that will import your requirements and tests into TestDirector. It is a bit cumbersome to flag everything in your document, but the upload to TD is very fast. I loaded about 6,000 requirements this way, it took a couple of days, but it probably would have taken 2 weeks to input it all manually.
As I understood from your reply, Requirements can be imported in TD only.
What about Test Plan and Test cases? If yes, can you please give me some of steps how to import?
What do you mean by flag everything in the document? Please detail if you donít mind.
How do you handle if the structure of my previous TP and TC was not match in TD,
Thank you in advance!
You can import test cases and test plans too. There are two macro files you will need to download from mercury, one for Word, and one for Excel. To get them, click on the "Plug-Ins Page" link and then click on the "More TestDirector Add-Ons" link. Pick the version of TD that you have and the downloads will be there. Directions for installation should also be there.
