Making the TD project unavailable temporarily
I have Test Director running in Microsoft PWS.
Since i need to take backups of TD project every day, i want to make the TD project unavailable temporarily. To do this i can use Project Administrator to remove and restore the connection.
However,i need to make this process automated so that i don;t need to sit late night to do this.
I tried to automate the stopping and restarting the PWS to accompish this. But I couldn;t do it.
Does anybody have any suggestions.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanx in advance,
Re: Making the TD project unavailable temporarily
Even with an automated stop/restart of the PWS services, your users would still technically be logged in. If they are 'idle' on a defect or other window, TD only pings back to the users about every three to four minutes (depending on usage) and may not realize that the user is not logged in for the duration of time it takes to restart PWS.
Does your company do automated backups overnight of other critical servers and/or applications? You may want to consider getting your TD server included in this process rather than backing up manually, as it's a more consistent process, and can occur when users are not logged in.
Outside of that, I think the least risk is with removing the projects as you are now.
