Simultaneous database use by v6.02 and 7.2/7.5?

Anybody know if you can point the TD server portion of versions 6.02 and 7.5 to access the same database (i.e. there's no conversion required when upgrading to a newer version)??

Sure be nice to be able to run off (at least) the same database server and not have to create a new database and migrate projects over when we upgrade to latest version (or isn't it that hard)?

Re: Simultaneous database use by v6.02 and 7.2/7.5?

Currently i use the same oracle database
with 7.2 and 7.5. And they share the same network directory for the Common Directory. Unfortunately you need two web servers.
But before we had 6.02 and 7.2 parallel working on one machine.

The upgrading from 6 to 7.5 are two steps.
from 6 to 7.2 and from 7.2 to 7.5. Maybe Mercury support has a tool to do it in one step.

Got the following response from Mercury Tech Support:

We cannot use the same databse for both TD6.02 and Td7.5. Once upgraded to Td7.5 you cannot use in Td6.x.so We will have to make a copy of your database uisng copyfrom and upgrade of the copy of database to TD7.5 and use the original in Td6.02 and copy upgraded to Td7.5.

Re: Simultaneous database use by v6.02 and 7.2/7.5?

The response from Mercury Tech Support means that you can't connect to the same Project from two different TD Servers. For sure you can use the same tablespace on the same DB Server to create two or more different Projects (some for TD6.X, TD7.2, TD7.5 ...) but you should make sure to use unique names for the Projectnames. Each Projects creates its own Tables on the DB Server and it doesn't matter from which version of TestDirector they come from.
