Windows 8 - TD Connection using OTAClient80.dll via VBS throws error?
I tried connecting the Test Director 8.0 implementing OTA API using VB Script.
The script works perfectly fine in windows xp.
But when initiated in Windows 8, "A dynamic link library(DLL) initialization routine failed" error.
1) In Windows 8, the VB script implementing OTAClient.dll for QC ALM is working fine.
2) In Windows 8, the Same VB Script implementing OTAClient80.dll for Test Director 8.0 is throwing the above mentioned error.
First, Test Director 8.0 has been sunset. It is no longer supported.
Second, there is no version of the Test Director/Quality Center/ALM product that is supported on Windows 8.
Third, HP has an open enhancement request to support Windows 8 with the latest version of the product (ALM/QC 11.5), but that change is currently stalled by a defect that has been escalated to Microsoft. HP is currently saying they are not expecting a fix from Microsoft before the end of 2013.
Lastly, given that TD 8.0 is unsupported, you will never see a patch for making it work with Windows 8.
I would strongly recommend that you work with HP or an authorized reseller to get your Test Director 8.0 system upgraded to a supported product version, if at all possible. To get to the most recent version (11.x) you will have to do intermediate upgrades. Upgrading directly from TD 8.0 is also not supported.
I understand that the Test Director is no more supported. But my customer is sticking to it unfortunately.
My doubt here is if the TDExplorer(last released around 10 years back) which implements the OTAClient80.dll can work in Windows 8, why can't we write our own program to use the same dll to access the TD Server.
