Test Director Vs Bugzilla
Having used TD for over 10 yrs, I find myself in a new job where they use Bugzilla. I believe the reason is because it is the tool that the company who does that dev work use. I would like to convnice the powers that to move over to TD instead, however, funds might be an issue. My question is, as I m not at all familiar with Bugzilla, I would be very grateful, if my fellow learned colleagues, you could provide me with your views as to TD Vs Bugzilla, pros and cons of each and which one you think is better.
Lastly, can TD be integrated with Bugzilla, so that we can still use it even if the company who does the dev work decide not to change over to TD?
Thanks v much
Re: Test Director Vs Bugzilla
I think that the first thing to take into account is that TD/QC is also (if not in principal) a Test Management System, while Bugzilla is a Bug Management System (maybe even tasks if you stretch it). This means that all your coverage and integrations into the testing process are lost, whats more you will need to get a separate tool to manage your testing efforts.
Unless you have lots of experience with Bugzilla, TD/QC will be a lot easier to configure and customize. I agree with many that once you get into the trenches with Bugzilla you can do a lot of things that you can't with any other tool, but it takes a lot of time to get there.
GUI-wise (and for many, like me, that is an issue!) I prefer what you get from TD/QC around the look and feel as well as with the way you can customize (even though it is far from the things you can do with ClearQuest!)
Now, to put things into proportions. Bugzilla is FREE while TD/QC will cost you a large buck per floating license (a lot more than what I would like to pay if someone would ask me!)
A last factor to consider, and this one from personal experience of a couple of months back. Even if HP support is not as good as it used to be they are still there to answer questions, with bugzilla I had a couple of things that up to now no one has been able to help me with.
Regarding the integration (or synchronization) I haven't heard of anything for QC-Bugzilla, but maybe someone else in here has.
