QUalityCentre LDAP username display
I need some ideas around how to tackle a little issue I'm having with QC. Our instance has been setup to import users via LDAP, and the 'cn' field of the LDAP data is used as the username, which unfortunately is not the users actual name, e.g. username = 'ab12345.' That 'cn' is used as the user's NT logon, access card ID etc. etc. so it is difficult to force the taxonomy to change.
Now, when a user logs a defect, 'ab12345' is shown as the person that the bug was detected by, or gets assigned to, which isn't very user friendly.
Is there any way for me to show the fullname of the user instead? I'd like the user to login with the ab12345 username, but have his fullname displayed in the defects component. Think it's possible?
I've already changed the LDAP import settings to use the user's fullname as his username, but that means they have to type their full 'firstname surname' combo in order to login...
Re: QUalityCentre LDAP username display
You're basically stuck on this one. It would be nice if QC allowed you to control how a user was displayed in the user-based fields, but we can't. Instead, you can...
1) Just drop-down a field and you'll see the full name of the person in the list (assuming more recent versions of QC).
2) Create a user-defined field in the defects component that will be used to store the full-name of a user. Make this field read-only and then use the workflow to automatically populate it with the full name of the correponding user id.
In the end, there is no "great" solution... just workarounds.
