We are looking to start implementing a load testing solution in our company, and i was wondering if anyone here can tell me the difference between VSTS' load testing module and LoadRunner in terms of what each program can do. Thanks.
You will find substantial differences in the number of protocols supported, the level of analysis available after the test and the interface for test control. Keep in mind that VSTS has only been on the market for a short period of time relative to LoadRunner's 15 year run. That length of time has bought LoadRunner a degree of maturity that VSTS cannot yet match.
The better approach is going to be to write down the set of requirements which you need for a tool to meet in order to win your business. Contact your local VAR for Microsoft and your local VAR for HP. Using one of your applications look at what it will take to build and deploy a small performance test. Be forewarned, this is a technology proof and you'r enot going to get a free load test out of the deal. Both of these organizations are going to ask you to commit to a purchase if they meet all of your requirements before they put any skin in the game for a technology proof of concept.
