Hi all,

Doest it degrade the performance of the application if we configure the monitors in the performence centre?

thanks and regards,

Re: Doest it degrade performenceif configure moniotors

Any monitoring can have an impact. Degrade? It depends upon things such as sampling frequency, quantity of counters being monitored, current processing workload, computing power, and so on.

Both the architect-under-test and your load farm can be impacted along with the network.

A simple test without guarantees about impacts is as follows:

With monitoring disabled:
1. Run a single Vuser multiple iterations (20 or so), with
1.1 Simulated caching off
1.2 Explicit clear cache and cleanup cookies in script at the beginning of each iteration
1.3 At least network busy time, where
1.4 The Vuser is the only user on the system-under-test
1.5 Think time and pacing delays disabled
2. Repeat with monitoring enabled.
3. Compare
4. Repeat at 1 thru 3 at least three times

Other concerns in another context for your load farm would be, again - frequency and volume of counters be grabbed and logged along with the duration of the test. The sheer volume can suffocate the load farm and make it the bottleneck.

CAUTION!This does not account for the state of any server in your architecture at any point. Nor does this account for the hard and soft caching mechanisms and their influences throughout your architecture. It doesn't account for any influences of garbage collection mechanisms either. And, it doesn't account for any other monitoring by others that may be going on during your testing.
