I have like 46 test cases relating to one application and some more to another application. There are a total of about 96 testcases. And i need to bulid the test scripts for that and execute them.
How wolud i know which test cases can be grouped into one script and how many scripts i can make of these testcases.
thanks for any kinda feed back.
I would say that grouping would depend upon the following factors:
1. Prerequisites - Can't enter data until you have logged in, for example.
2. Previous methods used - What is the company used to, groups of test in one script, one script per test case, etc.
3. Traceability Matrix - Does one script by it's nature prevent another from running? An error for a missing credit card number cannot be run right after a successful CCNO is entered.
4. Regression - Can the tests be run once, and then run again? If not, then they will not be a good candidate for merging into more than one script.
We code the scripts into page level tests, so that we can call a "happy path" for prerequisite screens (login, client entry) before getting to the actual test case. But, each test case has it's own script, rather than four test cases in one script. But that is just a design preference.
