Use of Loadrunner with Crystal Analysis
We wish to load 500 users through Crystal Analysis into MS Analysis Services (Yukon). We have identified that DCOM does not work. Does loadrunner support XMLA. It seems that Crystal analysis uses MSOLAP90.dll (PTS) to communicate with Analysis Services (SQLSERVER 2005).
Thanks in advance
Re: Use of Loadrunner with Crystal Analysis
Step one, identify the protocol being used for communication.
Grab a protocol analyzer and watch the communication stream coming out of the back of your client on the front end. Most protocol analyzers have the capability of idenfying application protocol families (such as dblib, http, ftp, ...) embedded within a carrier protocol, such as IP.
Once you have that information, compare the protocol in use with the one's available for recording from LoadRunner (file->new....examine the list). If you're protocol is listed, then start there for recording. If not, then you may want to take a look any any of the various template forms available in LoadRunner, all the way up to building a DLL in visual studio to reproduce the behavior and the calls of the application.
Or, try the inverse, go to the sockets level. Be forewarned, a colleague of mine once described working at a sockets level as being very tedious, akin to picking fly scat poop out of ground pepper. Tedious, but in the end very rewarding. Working in Sockets also tends to seperate the Children from the Adults in the LoadRunner universe, so consider yourself warned.
