Quick test Pro Scripts in Loadrunner

    Hi,
We tried to run Quicktest pro scripts in Loadrunner. At any point of time we can run only one concurrent user per load generator. Loadrunner manual says we can use QTP scripts in Load runner. I feel there is no point in running only one concurrent user per load generator. How to over come this problem?.

    Thanks,
    Genesis

That's the way it is, my friend! A QTP (or WR) user is a GUI user. (In general) it requires one PC per GUI user.

You may have had higher expectations (as have others in the past) by assuming you can simply carry your QTP or WR scripts into LR and use them as-is. T'ain't so.

One other comment (because it's a pet subject of mine). QTP or WR scripts are (supposed to be) designed for FUNCTIONAL testing. The requirements for a Load Test script are different. Thus, apart from the case of running one QTP or WR user for comparison purposes, scripts for those tools are usually poorly suited to direct use in load testing.

I agree with Peter however...a GUI user does have his (or her?) place in performance test scripts.

By adding transactions into the Winrunner/QTP script which mirror the transactions coded into your LR script you can get a better feel for what the single GUI user is actually experiencing whilst the multiple Vusers generate load.

For instance you may be using LR to find out how quickly a web page is returned to the client from the server. With a GUI user replicating what the Vusers are doing you can set Winrunner checks (such as win_wait_info or win_check_gui) to see how long the web page is actually taking to render for the end user.

Ideally this should compare favourable with the transactions you measure via Loadrunner but it is a nice little failsafe check if you are not entirely sure your LR results are accurate.

Valid observation. But, as you imply, just a single GUI Vuser is (typically) all that is required for this purpose.
