How can I do performance testing portal server as cloud scape data base

    Hi all
Now I got the chance to use load runner. Back end database is IBM's cloudscape database. If 8000 users are working at same time and doing transactions. I have to write the script for this . How to proceed? Please give the replies.

    Thanks.

Re: How can I do performance testing portal server as cloud scape data base

Please refer to your training materials. First, you need to build a performance test plan with a profile of the load characteristics.

This profile will determine which business processes are scripted, what types of delays are included and how many iterations are to be included for each user. The load test plan overall should define the test environment, document where it is the same as production, and also should document where it is substantially different than production, should document the critical timed components (transactions) and should note which data is in use (as a match to production).

If this is your first performance test, get help. Especially considering the size of 8000 concurrent users. The risk of not building an accurate load model and load test is many fold, but it includes (but is not limited to) the following
</font><ul type="square">[*]<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica">You will not find problems that will occur in production</font>[*]<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica">The problems you do find will not occur in production. You will burn engineering/development resources chasing software ghosts.</font>[*]<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica">You will diminish the value of your performance QA practice in the eyes of your customers</font>[*]<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica">The results cannot be used to accurately predict the performance of the system in production.</font>[/list]<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica">
Also, the protocol used for constructing virtual users is based upon the protocol between the client and the next upstream tier, which may or may not be the targetted data store of the cloudbase database. One of the items that should be included in the performance test plan is an architectural diagram. Such a diagram will illustrate which protocol should be used in the virtual user construction.

First you learn (training), then you study (participate as a secondary to a mentor in a performance test), next you direct (lead with your mentor in attendance), and finally you lead (Run a load test by yourself). If you choose to leapfrog all the steps, that is up to you, but it would not be recommended.

    Food for thought,
