Drop down box simulation
I am recording a LR script for web protocol.
I want to simulate a scenario wherein the drop down is actually clicked and then a value is selected from it.
Currently the script LR has recorded is using the field - value pair kind of thing.
In sort I am looking for a funtion similar to list_select_item that we have in a Java protocol script.
Any help/pointers is appreciated.
Offcourse one thing I can do is parameterize the drop down selection but that would simulate a server hit depending on the value selected from the drop down.
Re: Drop down box simulation
Your list_select_item operates at the application layer (OSI layer 7). LoadRunner is a presentation layer (OSI layer 6) testing tool. This is what allows it to have so many sessions on one box.
Keep in mind from LoadRunner training, you parameterize human user input, you correlate for system introduced data. If your user selects an item from the list box, then create a loadrunner variable, have it's parameter selection be appropriate (random, sequential, etc...) and be done with it. if it is highly dependent data, where the list box contents may change based upon other user input, then correlate for the information, make sure you have an ord=all in your correlation and then pick a random valid value from the generated pseudo array.
if you must accept the resource issues associated with the use of a layer 7 testing tool, then take a look at the use of WinRunner and the GUI virtual user. The scripts will be more complicated, more resource dependent and you will only be able to execute one virtual user per OS instance.
