I will test this app. the app. is based on Web, but many program is coded by powerbuilder, so when you click module the PB window will appear. I real don't know how to test this app. even how to record the script.
any reply will be welcome!
The primary question to address in this case is which presentation layer protocol is being passed between client and server. To check this, use a protocol analyzer. Ethereal (http://www.ethereal.com) is a pretty good one and is available under the GNU license.
Once you know the protocol in use between client and server, match that to the list of available protocols in the Virtual User Generator. This should provide a strong basis for your starting point in script development. Given your description any number of protocols might be in use
* Citrix with web client and powerbuilder application
* Some sort of custom interface that brings powerbuilder native appls to run on a web app server (http protocol communication)
* Powerbuilder front end communicating with a web service using SOAP or some other communication mechanism.
* Combination protocol matching any of the above (see LoadRunner documentation on recording with Multiple Protocols.).
The protocol analyzer is the great equalizer. It makes the process of picking the right protocol less of an educated guess and more of a strong suspicion with substantiating evidence.
