In loadrunner After running scenario with many transactions, one trasaction response time is poor, how to find out bottlenecks in that transaction I want client processing time, application processing time and data base processing time
Unfortunately LoadRunner does not provide this information.
Though by careful monitoring of metrics within the application and database server(s) and the associated hardware on which they are running you can often identify at least which of the two may be the bottleneck.
As LoadRunner is a protocol level tool you cannot measure client-side processing unless you use LoadRunner to drive a WinRunner or QTP script which would allow you to calculate the overhead of your client application.
To measure application and database server processing time you will have to either insert transaction timing statements into the source code or use a 3rd party tool in order to 'look-inside' the application and DB layers.
I just noticed yesterday that the new version of LoadRunner 7.8 is now on General release.
Theres a new J2EE Transaction Breakdown Diagnostics Module which may be of use to you **If** your using an Enterprise Java Application server.
Quote from Merucy Suppost Site:
"We are excited to release our add-on to Load Runner, the J2EE Transaction Breakdown Diagnostics Module. The module is a quantum leap forward in LoadRunner's ability to pinpoint the root cause of J2EE performance problems. During a performance test, the LoadRunner J2EE Transaction Breakdown Module reveals the run-time performance and behavior of each of your server-side J2EE components. Now you can drill-down from a slow end-user transaction all the way to the bottlenecked java method or SQL statement. This deep insight exponentially reduces the time to problem resolution and helps ensure on time, on budget delivery of J2EE-based applications."
I've order the new box set and am eager to evaluate this myself.
