LoadRunner 7.6 WAN Emulation Questions...
Have just started working with LoadRunner 7.6 WAN Emulation feature. From looking at MI's website the sample reports show estimated performance for locations like UK, Japan, New York etc. However within the SW itself it just gives you preset models like 'transatlantic congested' rather than by specific Geography/Country. You do have the ability to create your own models by changing latency, packet loss, packet reorder settings etc, however I am at a loss as to how I should customize the settings for particular countries. For example, what is the difference between WAN emulation in UK vs. Ireland vs. Russia? Is there any? I called Mercury Support and they were no help. Wondering if anyone else it trying to use this feature as represented on MI's website and is having similar questions. Appreciate any thoughts on this subject. Thanks.
Re: LoadRunner 7.6 WAN Emulation Questions...
The demo you could see on the website is a DEMO. In fact, if you want to measure a resp time from StPetersburg or Cork - you should have your load generators in Russia and in Ireland. There's no trick. However, you CAN simulate the typical problems that occur on the WAN scale networks. This is the purpose of WAN emulator.
How could you know what should be the settings? - well, most of big international companies used to have a department in their corporate IT that take care of the international/inter-continental network infrastructure. They use their tools to monitor the traffic. Those folks is the most reliable source for such an info.
