.Net In LoadRunner.
User arunnaachalam (email@example.com) posted:
I need some valuable suggestions for load testing a .NET application.
First of all i need to know, whether, there is a provision to capture the s=
cripts using the load runner version 7.0.
The application, that i am load testing is a web application, hosted in MS-=
IIS 5.0 server, with Oracle 126.96.36.199 client.
This application is developed in .Net.
I have a trial version of loadrunner for 25 vusers.
I tried capturing the application using the loadrunner 7.0(Web session), bu=
t it was failure. The script was not generated, so i installed the Astra Loa=
d Test and did the capture, it worked fine.
I planned to install agents in different systems and execute the scripts wi=
th a distributed load.
I tried installing the load generator alone, but it didn't work, so install=
ed all the components in all the agent machines.
Even after installing all the components in all the machines , when i tried=
to execute the scripts , i got some error messages in the controller.
Now the problem is , i was able to invoke the agent machine from the contro=
ller, the "LoadRunner Agent Process" get's started in all the agent machine=
s, but as soon as start the run, i got these msg
Error -29973 : Installation of additional environments required - failed to=
read registry key :"~=CC"".
Error -29996 : Process "mmdrv.exe" was not created ,reason - error in parsi=
ng command line into file
What cud be the reason for this. I tried re-installing the loadrunner softw=
are in the client machines, but even then i get these error messages.
You have to help me in suggesting how to work on the .Net applications with=
load runner 7.0 and with astra load test.
Does Loadrunner 7.0 support .Net? If yes then, I also need to know , whethe=
r there is any add-in patch for .Net load testing.
Suggstions are highly appreciated.
Thanks & Regards

There is a .Net add-in that will be available for LR 7.6 (which is due out early in 2003). I am not sure if this add-in is backward compatible for other versions. As I understand it, this add-in allows you to manually creates LR scripts in Visual Studio that makes calls to your .Net components. You have access to most of the usual VUGen features in Visual Studio (i.e think-times, lr transactions, lr functions), but there is no recording; scripts are coded directly in Visual Studio. We recently purchased these new .Net vusers, and saw a demo but so far we have no hands on experience.
Regarding, your web application, it shouldn't matter if your web application is developed in .Net or something else, if it uses http protocal, you should be able capture the communication. If you were able to records this with Astra Load I would certainly think you could also capture this with LR because Astra is basically a subset of LR functionality, that is specifically for web. Did you verify you could record against some other website? Did you try recording in Web/Winsock?
Re: .Net In LoadRunner.
This .Net add in work with LR 7.51 version also. and for web application use web(HTML/HTTP) protocal this works for applications developed in .Net also.
