    online monitors

On some of the online monitors such as IIS I am only getting total Bytes. Most of the counters are just blank. Is there a trick to getting them all to display and log? I seem to get most all SQL and a fair amount on Windows resources but hardly anything on others.

    Thanks much,

    denny

    Dennis,

Reckon this is something configurable from the source machine from which you want to monitor the counters.

For example on a Windows NT workstation, you need to have the 'SNMP' Windows service started in order to monitor its Windows resources remotely.

Not sure on IIS front specifically but I'd check tbe related documentation that it's not something as simple as a service or somekind of process needing started.

    Dennis,

In fact just looked up the IIS help http://localhost/iisHelp/ and there are two two protocols that allow you to access performance counters. The two protocols are Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and Performance Data Helper (PDH).

So as in my previous posting check SNMP is enabled to allow you to remotely monitor the resources.

Small correction: The PDH is a library and not a protocol. The PDH is built to plug into Microsoft's Perfmon. Earlier versions of Windows NT didnt have PDH. XP and Win2KP come with integrated PDH support.
