    special characters in the parameter string

    I am testing the web application. I have defined a paramter {SearchString} which is part of the URL query in the script and the data come from a file that has different values. I noitced if a string contains # or &, it failed. For example:
    Dates showing up as ##### --> failed
    But if I changed to
    Dates showing up as -->OK

    Same thing happened to &.

    Does this mean LoadRunner doesnt like "#" and "&" when you try to pass it in the script? Is there any workaround I can do to have these special characters in the data? Thanks

    Did you try escaping these characters? These characters have specific meanings in "C" and LoadRunner may be trying to use them.

    for instance "&" signifies the address of a variable, "#" is used for defining low level instructions like #define. (These are used in headers for loading files, and can be used as precompile code)

    Re: special characters in the parameter string

    I recorded the script again and purposely used # and & as part the parameter in the URL query. I found that they have been converted to "%23" and "%26." (I see "%20" very often and it is a "Space") They are the Hex number in ASCII. In order to use these special characters in the query, users have to manually convert them to Hex and add % in front of it. LoadRunner cannot do it this from the data file. Especially for &, it has special usage in query.
