Performance testing - ATM simulator recording
I need to do Performance testing for ATM simulator, which has been installed on my desktop.
Its a java based batch job file. If I invoke that job file,a GUI along with cmd window getting opened. Whatever operations done on GUI, reflecting in cmd.
I am very new to this type of testing. I tried to record the batch file using LoadRunner-Java Record and Replay with batch job option. No luck, nothing got recorded, but GUI got opened.
will it be supported by LoadRunner? If not suggest me the right tool to test ATM's
Any help gladly appreciated.
The first sample application offered by Mercury, in advance of the Flight reservation system, was an ATM simulator and server for recording.
So, you are concentrating on how you start the simulator and the language used by the simulator. I am going to ask you an architectural question, how does the simulator connect to the next upstream component? What communications protocols are used? How does this match up to what is available as an integration point in LoadRunner?
And, by the way, you may have noticed the "Template" virtual users as well as the ability to create a DLL based virtual user in visual studio. Just because an interface may not be recordable does not mean that it is not reproducible, especially since you have access to the source code. This then places a premium on other foundation skills, such as development in both the language of LoadRunner as well as the language of your simulator.
In two decades I have yet to run across an application interface that could not be reproduced in LoadRunner. This includes applications developed in COBOL, Clarion, Erlang, Python scripts & other languages, scripts and interfaces not explicitly supported in loadrunner by "check here" solution, but where either the architectural interfaces used by the applications was supported or where the source code for the interface was portable to a loadrunner virtual user.
Think architecturally. Your tool is only 5-15% of the solution set you need to be successful
