Mainframe application and hand held terminal (Warehouse performance)
Hope you are doing great and enjoying the best of your health.
My company has warehouses in different cities which are receiving material 24 by 7. In each warehouse there are some designated people who are receiving the material and scanning it through hand held terminals. Each hand held terminal is connected to a wifi device which is further connecting to our head office (Through both wired and wireless) where actual server is present. The application(server) is mainframe application in which all the data is stored.
Please help me to understand that if we can record this transaction through load runner? If yes then please tell me how actually I will do it because there is nothing that I will record through some application under test(mainframe server storing the data) nor any interface. It will be transaction starting from terminal and pushing the data directly into server.
Should I record two separate transactions, one for wireless connectivity between head office and warehouses and second is for wired connectivity.
Any other statistical tenchnique that i can use other than tool bases testing. That will also work for me.
Thank you so much in advance.
I'd be very tempted to try recording both the wireless and wired traffic if possible
However, I suspect that both will have to be recorded after the wifi (unless you can set a manual proxy on the handheld device)
You will need to either set up a man in the middle proxy (with loadrunner or something else recording the traffic) or get a pcap file from an intermediary server
Ideally you will be able to either record directly into LR or save the capture in to a fiddler archive, as these can be imported into LR12 - I vaguely remember pcap being importable too - but there were issues last time I tried
Be very careful to only record the single conversation - ie no-one else on the sysytem - otherwise you may end up spending a lot of time filtering the requests/responses
Thank you so much for your response.
I understood the first and the last part but sorry i am still confuse about the intermediate.
We cannot record the full scenario because there would be number of handheld ternminals and number of wifi devices wo we can only record from device that connecting all branches to the head office. Am i correct?
The same lines are used for all other traffic as well. So all other data including the data from the warehouses also using the same line. How to handle this situation?
So in loadrunner i will set the proxy of the receiver in loadrunner who is actually recieving the data in headoffice. It is actually the modem or you are talking about the mainframe server itself? From modem i think the device that connecting the head office with all the branches outside.?
google is your friend...
and so is the architect/network guys/etc/etc
try googling what you don't understand above and then go talk to the architect/network guys as to where they think the best place to record the interaction is
if you are not experienced with loadrunner, I would suggest (very strongly) that you recommend that your company hire someone who is experienced with this sort of test environment so that they can mentor you
