ApDex, and related (Summary Page Modifications)
OK, I have 2 questions (Part of this was posted in the "general" area... no replies... So, Moving it to a better location)
As you may already know: The Apdex method converts many measurements into one number on a uniform scale of 0-to-1 (0 = no users satisfied, 1 = all users satisfied). The resulting Apdex score is a numerical measure of user satisfaction with the performance of enterprise applications. This metric can be used to report on any source of end-user performance measurements for which a performance objective has been defined.
The Apdex formula is the number of satisfied samples plus half of the tolerating samples plus none of the frustrated samples, divided by all the samples:
Apdext = (Satisfied Count + Tolerating Count / 2) / Total Samples
where the sub-script t is the target time, and the tolerable time is assumed to be 4 times the target time. So it is easy to see how this ratio is always directly related to users' perceptions of satisfactory application responsiveness.
Example: if there are 100 samples with a target time of 3 seconds, where 60 are below 3 seconds, 30 are between 3 and 12 seconds, and the remaining 10 are above 12 seconds, the Apdex score is:
(60 + 30 / 2 )/ 100 = 0.75
So... I can get SLA's for all the steps in an app... can get little Check marks and Xs
Is there any way to generate an Apdex (Or Apdexish) number automaticlally?
Something like... Total Number of Checks for test/total number of test steps... would look nice on the Summary page, right?
That brings me to Part 2
Has anyone successfully modified the Sumary Page Layout? Is there a way to add "new" items to the summary page (Like the ApDex score, detailed above)
Apdex is a poor substitute for a business SLA which defines what a business needs to be successful. Instead it substitutes an observation of user behavior and abandonment. It is included in a lot of tools because of a process failure on the part of individuals and organizations to actually define their performance requirements and instead they wind up taking the "untuned" default values for the Apdex setup. YOu have to know what constitutes satisfaction and tolerating in your environment and most organizations just have no idea what these values are or should be. So, giving a score for Apdex in such an environment is just like saying, "we're code mauve on performance today."
Could you calculate it and produce a report if you did know what the breakover values are? Yes. The easiest way would be to go directly to the transactional source data in the analysis database. Take a look at the Event_Map and the Event_Meter tables. You will need to relate them and select out the transactions which have a PASS status for your reporting. It should just be a matter of running a single SQL query from EXCEL or your favorite query tool for you to generate "THE APDEX....."

But I still have a question about the Summary Page.
Is it possible to add data to that page? or to change the format of it at all?
or was it pretty much hard coded....
